The Landon Bears jumped out to an early 16-2 lead and held on for a hard-fought 73-63 win Wednesday night in Bethesda. Whitman cut Landon's lead to 23-16 midway through the second quarter, but could get no closer. Charlie Waugh led Whitman with 23 points and Ross Koehn and Ervin Cook added 11 each. Whitman falls to 5-2 on the season. The loss snapped Whitman's 11-game holiday tournament win streak, which started with a win over Central HS in December 2004.

Demetrius Cook scored 14 points, Sam Walsh had 9, and Eddie Wytkind scored 7. Whitman is now 4-1, 1-0 this season.

Paint Branch junior guard Patrick Ho hit a three-pointer with :12 left, lifting Paint Branch to an exciting 65-60 win in Burtonsville. Whitman went on a 14-2 run (8 of those by Demetrius Cook)  to take a 58-57 lead with :35 remaining, but Paint Branch guard Colin Cox hit a three-pointer to give PB back the lead, 60-58. Whitman tied it at 60 on a back-door layup by D. Cook with :20 left, before Ho's eventual game-winner. Charlie Waugh had a career-high 24 points for Whitman.
